Fleetwood Gym Amateur Boxing Club – Where the Journey Begins
As part of Wyre Council’s Wyre Moving More strategy, we’re shining a light on why more young people are choosing boxing as a fun, empowering way to stay active and healthy.
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or young person curious about trying something new, here are the top five reasons young people are lacing up their gloves and getting into boxing.
Head Coach Sean McGann at Fleetwood Gym Amateur Boxing Club (FGABC) welcomes young people to a club with an incredible 130-year history. As a non-profit community boxing club, FGABC is run by a small, dedicated team of volunteers passionate about amateur boxing. They firmly believe in the physical and mental health benefits boxing fosters within the community.
Their mission is simple but powerful: to inspire, encourage, and promote the benefits of boxing through first-class training facilities and expert coaches, all in a safe and inclusive environment. The club offers a wide range of classes for all ages and abilities, including the Tiny Tysons Class for children aged 5 to 9 years, Ladies Classes, the Beginner/Junior Class for ages 10 to 16 years, and the Senior Class for those aged 17 years and over.
At FGABC, there’s no need to bring anything to class—everything from gloves to protective gear is provided. The club has helped many young people, starting as early as age 5, to develop skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Not only does boxing keep them fit, but it also encourages friendships and fosters a sense of belonging.
